Toronto Ontario Toronto Raptors
The Toronto Raptors are back in the spotlight after winning their first NBA championship in 2019. In a league where new NBA champions are becoming increasingly rare, the Raptors have become the first Canadian champions in NBA history.
While most franchises have an owner who owes them the championship, the Raptors are somewhat different in the sense that they come from Toronto.
Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) dates back more than 100 years, when the Toronto Maple Leafs became one of the six original teams in the NHL. There are two teams, the Maple Leaf Leafs and Toronto Raptors, both in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and one in New York City.
The arena is popularly known as the ACC Hangar (the latter nickname comes from the sponsorship of Air Canada). The original design, which was basketball specific, was commissioned by MLSE for major changes to make the arena more suitable for hockey. During construction, the Raptors and their partially completed arena were purchased by the Maple Leafs, whose owners had considered building their own arena in New York City to replace the aging Maple Leaf Gardens. The Leafs owners decided to rebrand and put their brand behind the NBA's new expansion team, the Raptors, and rebrand themselves.
The Toronto Raptors, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Maple Leaf Gardens were the home arena of the new team in Toronto, Ontario.
The Air Canada Centre (ACC) is the home of the Toronto Raptors of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBA) in the city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, just outside downtown Toronto. The arena is 635,000 square feet and is operated by the same group that owns the Leafs and Raptors. Connected to the rest of North America's largest sports and entertainment complex, AirCanada Centre provides access to more than 1.5 million square feet of retail space. Canadian businessman John Bitove, who ran the original ownership group , they started construction on the air - Canada Center in April 2006.
That might explain why Ujiri could close the deal for Leonard knowing he would stay with the team. Even if Leonard is gone, it is hard to imagine a single owner allowing a basketball team to speculate on the future. Kawhi was eventually traded, but even if you lose him next season, you can start over. You just have to be prepared and play with what you have, whether you're playing for a playoff spot or losing.
While Knicks fans have been dealing with a man who has had to control the fate of a beloved franchise, James Dolan is being run as a team that makes all the decisions. On the other hand, it can lead to the Knicks milking Dolan for money without succeeding in basketball. It may not be a mistake to give more than many NBA managers get, but identifying a figurehead as an owner requires a billionaire to lead a group.
The increase in production was very encouraging to say the least, but how much more can this young star grow? All the indications are that Siakam will be the number one offensive tackle after Kawhi's departure, and we'll have to figure out how much he can really do. The improvement of the year - over a year - suggests he is ready for the challenge. He will also have to adjust to become the main focus of the opposing defence.
If the Raptors don't have a strong start to the year, I wouldn't be surprised if players like Lowry, Gasol and Ibaka are on the radar of contenders to bolster their roster. Pascal Siakam has made great strides and his leap officially justifies the award as the Most Improved Player this season. He seems to deserve a long-term contract with the team, but he still needs to shine in the postseason and catch fire in downtown Milwaukee or Golden State.
The sample size is familiar to everyone, but there is no formula for sample size success, which makes the Raptors unique. The Raptors trust Ujiri to do the right thing for the team so the general manager can be an extension of the owner's wishes. There is money to be spent, and Miami Heat owner Mickey Arison has found a way to shut down operations and let NBA people do whatever they need to do. As long as this team looks great in Leonard's absence, the Raptors will have everything to be proud of and nothing to regret.
But with Kyle Lowry still in the squad, he will remain one of the best players in a team with the potential to be together on the pitch. This team has always had great success on and off the court and they have good reasons for doing so, as have many other NBA teams in recent years.
