
Hot Docs 2011, North America’s largest documentary film festival, returns to Toronto from April 28 to May 8, with more than 200 films from more than 43 countries. Hot Docs 2011 presents more than 150 films from Canada and around the world that prompt conversation on current key issues facing society.
Just announced for this year’s festival are the 26 documentary features that will be a part of the Special Presentations Program. This includes a high-profile collection of world and international premieres, award winners from recent international festival circuits, and works from master filmmakers.
The program will also include the world premieres of several films including “The Hollywood Complex” (USA) and “Dolphin Boy” (Israel), the International premieres of “Becoming Chaz” (USA), “The Bully Project” (USA), the North American premieres of “The Advocate For Fagdom” (Germany) and “My Barefoot Friend” (South Korea), and the Canadian premieres of “Blood In The Mobile” (Denmark) and “The Good Life” (Denmark). These are only a few of the several documentaries to be featured as part of this program.
Back at the Hot Docs festival this year will be the "Made In" program, which explores the contemporary documentary work of rich filmmaking cultures. This year’s program will focus on films from the country of Italy. "Made In Italy" will have a selection of films that showcase the country’s best contemporary non-fiction cinema and celebrate the strength and artistry of their documentary community. Some of the "Made In Italy" films featured this year include “Heart Quake”, “The Valley of the Moon”, “Cosmic Energy Inc,” and “The Castle."
