As one of the nation’s oldest public-arts organizations, Buffalo's Albright-Knox Art Gallery has maintained its mission to acquire, exhibit and to preserve modern and contemporary art.
The Buffalo Fine Arts Academy, founded in 1862, is the governing body of the gallery. Recognized as a vibrant cultural gathering place and educational resource for the community, the gallery also is acclaimed as one of the world’s most dynamic modern and contemporary art institutions.
The permanent collection includes post-war American and European art, examples of abstract expressionism, post-impressionism, pop art, as well as works by Van Gogh, Gaugin, Picasso, Matisse, Miro, Mondrian, Rodchenko, Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, Arshile Gorky and Jasper Johns.
In addition to its permanent collection and artwork acquired recently, the gallery also highlights several education programs for visitors including classes and workshops, school and public tours, lectures, and the monthly free program, M&T First Fridays @ The Gallery, featuring free exhibitions, performances, activities, lectures and more.
