Biography & Contact Info
Biography:
Zameer is a Toronto band that has been voted among the top 10 performers in Toronto by an international music showcase (Emergenza), and was nominated for the ‘Best Indie Artist’ award at the 2006 Toronto Independent Music Awards.

The band consists of three brothers, Zameer, Hussain, and Ali who have been writing and performing together from a very early age. They were previously known as Dead Shyre, and independently sold over 2000 copies of their CD Poet of the Season, featuring songs like The Masseuse, now an underground classic.

In 2005, the band changed their name to Zameer, a Persian/Urdu word meaning “conscience”, also the name of the band’s charismatic singer and guitarist. From then on, Zameer proceeded to play at prominent Toronto venues like Lee’s Palace, The Opera House, The Reverb, Jeff Healey’s Night Club, and the legendary Horseshoe Tavern. They played with the Grammy-nominated Alan Gerber, and Greg Godovitz from the classic Canadian rock band Goddo played bass guitar on their song "Life With Guinevere".  Their live act has seen the lights of Houston, New York, Toronto, Los Angeles, San Francisco, London, Windsor, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia. Their audience has included the governor of New York and the Premier of Ontario.

Though primarily a guitar-based rock band, the band has consistently resisted categorization, delving into a range of musical styles, and playing with a slew of talented Toronto musicians ranging from jazz flutists and saxophonists to traditional East Indian percussionists.
